I am so excited about this; it was a process more than 3 years in the making–the author, Craig Snow, approached my booth at PNWA’s writer’s convention in 2016 and asked me if I was interested in doing a kid’s book. The concept was so charming I couldn’t resist, by January of 2017 I was taking photos of the fire station and getting a ride-along with the firefighters. For what it’s worth, you couldn’t hope to meet a better group of people. They really are heroes.
Not only is this a fun little story, but it’s also a celebration of a piece of Seattle’s history. Fire station #2 is the oldest station still in use in the city (it was built in the 1920s) and today’s firefighters are proud of their past. Photos of the early crews line the walls; the last pages in the book include a tribute to them.
The publisher, Kitsap Publishing, is also a local company and they were kind enough to profile me on their creative team.
It was such a great project from start to finish, my only regret is the timing of the release. What with the world on lockdown, we can’t do signings or events to promote the book the way we’d wanted. But when these tough times are over, we have big plans and I can hardly wait!
